Blog Hop!

I could just kick myself for not getting in on this Blog Hop Party through Quilting Gallery, but I just wasn't ready!

Next time, though!

Even though I'm not a hosting blogger, I wanted to share the link so that you can go along the list with me to enter the give-aways!  I have posted the link below!

Enjoy!

2013 Fall Mug Rug Swap

What is a "mug rug"?

That is what I asked myself after I joined the swap . . . and after doing a little bit of research (thanks, Google!), I figured out that mug rugs are a cross between coasters and placemats.

They can be different sizes in length/width - I think the average is around 6" x 10".  So, that is the goal I set myself.

My swap partner likes purple.  I had just enough purple batik for this project.

These are the end results . . . they measure 6.25" x 11"(ish) each.

Sorry I didn't take pictures of the whole process like I did for the table runner.  Just keep in mind that I tried paper piecing, and even made some mini Dresden plates, but went with the above instead.  Will send the paper pieced R and the mini Dresden plates as well - maybe she can incorporate them somehow into other projects.

Pathways Table Runner

Ok, so I've been slacking, and it's time to get back on track!

One of the projects I've been working on in the past month is a pattern I purchased from Mishka's Playground called Pathways.

I wasn't sure at first what fabric to use for this.  Then one day, I just grabbed one of those packets with 6 FQ's inside from the store, and we were on our way!

I'm going to tell you now, that while working on this project, I was reminded of That 70's Show.  You'll see what I mean!

I didn't take pix of the fq's, but here are the pieces once they were cut. This is the order I wanted them to be in on the runner.  You can see the smaller blocks just underneath the bigger ones.

Now, here are the smaller blocks once they are attached to the larger squares.  Are they still in the order I wanted them in?  I think so!

Now, after going thru the fun process of attaching all those blocks, here they are on my wall.  And, as you can see, I got turned around as far as where the larger squares ended up!  Still looks great!

Just for giggles, here is the back of the front -

On to the back!  Yay!  This part was pretty quick.

Let's make a run for the border!

Borders are actually kinda fun, and really easy!

Here is how I kept my lines straight . . .

Don't get confused when chain piecing!  Once you get your rhythm going, it is piece of cake!

What to do now?  Before I attached the border, I sandwiched the pieces:

Because I wasn't comfortable with Free Motion Quilting at this point, I just stitched in the ditch.  Looked pretty good on the back, too!

Now to add the binding!

Now, I'm going to give some cudo's to Missouri Star Quilt Co for the video on The Ultimate Quilt Binding tutorial.  For those of you who haven't seen it yet, try this link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vCWpxBRs20
It is really easy for me to get turned around on which way to attach the ends, but I still get there in the end!  One of these days, I will figure out how to lay it out to have the angle going in the same direction.  However, that will only be a factor when using scrappy pieces or more than one color of fabric - if it's all the same, nobody will know!

After an hour or two (maybe 3 - I get distracted by the kids), here is the end result!

Anyone need a table runner that reminds you of the 70's?  Check out my Etsy shop!

Thank you for walking thru my project with me!
